To grow spinach in a kitchen garden, you will need to follow these steps:

  1. Choose a location that gets full sun to partial shade and has well-draining soil. Spinach prefers a pH of 6.0-7.0.

  2. Prepare the soil by adding compost or well-rotted manure to improve its fertility and structure.

  3. Sow the spinach seeds directly in the ground or in seed trays. Space the seeds about 2 inches apart and cover them with about 1/4 inch of soil.

  4. Water the seeds regularly to keep the soil consistently moist, but not waterlogged.

  5. Thin the seedlings to about 4-6 inches apart when they are large enough to handle.

  6. Keep an eye out for pests and diseases, and take action promptly if necessary.

  7. Harvest the spinach leaves as soon as they are large enough to eat. You can pick the leaves from the outside of the plant, leaving the center leaves to continue growing.

  8. Spinach can be planted in the spring and fall in most climates.
